KAOS Network Threshold Space

This alleyway conversion is for Ben Caldwell and Kaos Network, a community-based media production and performance center in Leimart Park, Los Angeles. As part of a City of Los Angeles Cultural Affairs Department Grant, SCI-Arc students, led by instructor Randall Wilson and assistant instructor Jason Burton, worked with the Kaos Network to create a threshold space for the communities youth to gather during the regular events held at the community center. A key element in the renovation is a cast concrete wall mural which displays carvings created by community members during a weekly hip-hop jam session hosted at the center.
